One of the few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Pearling Route serves as a “Testimony of an Island Economy” due to the Kingdom’s millennia-old pearl-collecting tradition and the globally significant single-product island economy and social system it resulted in. The pearling path expands across 3.5km and weaves through the old alleyways of Muharraq, and visitors can choose to start their visit at the Pearling Path Visitors and Interpretation Centre, which sits in the heart of Muharraq at the entrance of Souq Qaisariyah. The urban parts of the pathway have been completed and also lead the way for visitors to be guided through a unique experience of navigating through the streets of Muharraq to rediscover the old pearling capital of the Gulf.
